Can I get a yeast infection from a swimming pool or jazucci?

I'm planning on going on vacation to an all inclusive resort, and I am wondering if the swimming pools and jacuzzi's there can give me yeast infection.

Lucky you, going on vacation to an all-inclusive resort. I've been in need of a vacation since I can last remember.

The answer to this question is, it really depends. Yes and no. The average pool or Jacuzzi, if properly cared for, contains quite a number of chemicals. These chemicals can be harsh and cause irritation, but they keep bacteria, viral agents, and even yeast organisms from spreading from swimmer to swimmer. This means you won’t catch a yeast infection from another swimmer, or share yours with someone else. As long as you go to a decent resort that keeps cleanliness a top priority your chances will decrease greatly.

The aforementioned harsh chemicals will alter the pH balance in your vaginal area, especially if you’re a regular swimmer or stay in the water for an extended period of time. While most women don’t complain about getting a yeast infection from swimming, those who feel as though one might be coming on should avoid swimming for a while so as not to further alter the vaginal environment, making their current infections worse.

Finally, don’t forget about basic hygiene. Sitting around in wet pool clothes means you are keeping the vaginal environment warm, moist, and dark for an extended period of time. If you’re not going back into the water within a reasonable amount of time, consider changing and putting your regular clothing back on. Keeping yourself clean and dry at all times will go a long way in preventing future infections.

You can't "catch" a yeast infection BTW. A pool can cause extra growth but you can't get it from someone else...
