Can using public toilets give me a yeast infection? Should I make sure I never touch the seat?

You often hear questions asked about using the toilet or not, and we've all heard the folklore about the diseases you can catch from the toilet. From little diseases, to parasites that crawl up inside you and tear your insides. The parasites are of course mainly in third world countries, at least according to our parents. Now back to the question of can you get a yeast infection from the toilet.

Generally, direct contact is necessary for a yeast infection to spread, whether vaginal or skin related. There is no evidence suggesting yeast infections can be spread from toilet seat contact. That said, there are other conditions and STDs, like crabs, that you can get from toilet seats, so make sure you’re acting prudently and using toilet seat covers if you absolutely must touch a public toilet.

Don’t panic if you think you have a yeast infection, or if you aren’t sure what you have. Talk to your doctor or naturopath about your symptoms so that you can ensure you’re receiving the right treatments.
