I am assuming that by “detrimental” you are speaking of a severe case of Candida albicans overgrowth. The basic reason that the fungal forms of Candida are able to infest the human body is a lack of or an imbalance of the intestinal beneficial flora. Normally, many rounds of antibiotics over a period of time can be blamed for most cases of Candia albicans infestations. And a typical American diet containing high amounts of sugar and simple carbohydrates and a lack of health building foods such as green vegetables will only add to the problem by providing a beneficial environment in the intestines for the Candida and other problems while at the same time, creating a dangerous environment for the beneficial bacteria.

The beneficial bacteria in the intestines make up about 70% of a human being’s immune system. It was once believed that new babies were born without beneficial bacteria but the flora would naturally form by way of a mother’s milk or other means of nourishment. But according to recent studies, specifically one conducted at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain, it is now understood that newborn babies actually have a supply of healthy, beneficial bacteria when they are born. The mother’s milk contains as much as 700 species of bacteria, so breast feeding a baby also adds to the supply of bacteria as the baby starts feeding, but as I’ve explained, antibiotics can destroy the flora after years of doctors prescribing strong antibiotics to their patients.
