What are some foods you actually eat to kill candida, not just foods that will starve it, but actively fight it?

This is such a great question! A lot of people focus only on what they can and can’t eat on the diet, as they work to starve the Candida overgrowth in the body. What a lot of people don’t realize is that there are lots of foods and herbs that naturally have anti-fungal properties, making them a great addition to an anti-Candida diet.

Here are some foods to consider:

  • Coconut oil is often consumed by those on the Candida diet (sometimes plain, by the spoonful). It needs to be organic, extra virgin coconut oil, for the most part. Coconut, in general, is great and a lot of people use coconut flour to make coconut bread as it’s a filling addition to the diet as well. Coconut contains both lauric and caprylic acids.
  • Ginger supports detoxification throughout the body by promoting circulation. You can use ginger in your foods or make a tea from it.
  • Ghee is often referred to as the most natural butter you can eat, and it’s often considered one of the best sources of fat you can have in your diet. The lauric acid in ghee is a great antifungal agent.
  • Rutabaga has amazing antifungal properties. As a matter of fact, those who eat it on the diet caution that those new to this veggie start slowly, with just a few bites the first time they have it. The side effects of die-off from rutabaga consumption can be pretty strong.
  • Garlic is great for you in general, but it definitely has antifungal properties. It specifically stimulates your colon, helping with your digestive process. If you can’t stand eating it, you can get it in capsule form as well – but fresh is always better.

These are just a handful of options to consider. Others include onions, lemons or lemon juice, aloe vera, chaga, and even seaweed! While a lot of foods need to be avoided, some may help speed things along. Talk to your naturopath to decide which ones may be best for you!
