Absolutely, there is a high chance of Candida being connected to your constipation woes. The problem is that we don’t recognize the tight link that the two share between each other. In general, when we talk about Candida overgrowth little do we consider about the digestive problems that an increase in the numbers of the yeast can lead to. Infact, the basic problem with Candidiasis lies in a compromise with the beneficial microorganisms of your gut. The resultant effect is the problem in bowel movements which is associated more often than not with Candida overgrowth and hence can also be seen as one of the clear symptoms of Candidiasis.

Alternatively, it has also been established that constipation can lead to the overgrowth of the yeast thereby completing the unhealthy tie up. So, if you are experiencing a chronic problem with your bowel movements, get yourself checked for the increase in Candida population with a simple detection system like the CanDia5 test kit.

Understanding the rationale behind the connection:

Before going into the details of the connection between Candida and constipation it is necessary to understand whether there is a real possibility of such association. So let’s begin with the basic knowledge and symptoms about Candidiasis and constipation. In basic terms, if your bowel movements get reduced below three times per week you are facing constipation problems. While in its severe and chronic form, the number may even get reduced to one or less. How is it caused then?

It is mainly a disorder associated with lesser fibres in your diet, stress or dehydration and above all Candida overgrowth which can singly or through these factors lead to the manifestation of the constipation symptoms. It seems that we all know our Candida but it’s the analysis of the very basic knowledge about the ever so notorious resident of our body that can give you a clue about its proposed link to constipation.

As suggested by Dr. William G Crook, MD and author of “The Yeast Connection Handbook” Candida favors warm, moist conditions for its optimal growth and our intestine present it just the ideal environment to thrive. In addition, here they have plenty of food to consume inclusive of its favorite food, the sugars. Therefore, it’s just so perfect-a damp moist environment with optimal temperature. The Candida multiplies and grows in number to outgrow the probiotic counterparts in the gut leading to digestive problems and hence constipation. It has also been noticed that the overgrowth of Candida can lead to dehydration one major reason that leads to reduced bowel movements.

Candida and constipation: the unholy nexus

Jeanne Marie Martin MD has written comprehensively about the problems of Candida overgrowth in the book, “Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook” that focuses on the problems associated with the undue increase in number of the yeast and suggests that constipation is indeed a symptom of the condition. So, by now you have understood that there is good enough reason to believe about the role of Candida in leading to the manifestation of the symptoms of constipation. But there seems to be a little more into this connection.

It has now been suggested through studies that the constipated condition presents the Candida with better condition to grow and proliferate as there is more food for it and add to it the optimal growth conditions. This completes a seemingly unbreakable cycle.

What can be the best remedy?

Needles to say it’s the probiotic supplements that can aid you to fight against the problems of your bowel movements. There are a number of reports that suggest for the successful use of the probiotic strains in the alleviation of the symptoms of constipation. Moreover they can successfully outgrow the Candida very quickly by changing the conditions in favor of their growth while alienating the conditions for the growth of the yeast.

One major problem with the use of strong drugs against Candida is the die off which has to do with the release of toxic products by the dead cells of the yeast which can aggravate the situations like constipation. Since, probiotics doesn’t kill but interferes with the growth of yeast and outgrow them in numbers it is also a solution to the problems of Candida die off.

Dr. Szajewska and his team have successfully used probiotic strains in the treatment of constipation. Similarly, Dr. Bekkali has suggested in a published article in the Nutrition Journal for the positive effects of probiotic supplements on the symptoms of constipation.

Often during constipation your acquaintances would ask you to consume increased levels of the leafy vegetables that contain indigestible carbohydrates that can help improve your bowel movements. However, our system does not contain the enzymes required to break these complex carbohydrates and they could only be utilized with the help of the probiotic microflora present within your gut. But during constipation and Candida overgrowth, their number has undergone significant reduction which needs to be replenished through proper supplementation.

Therefore, the complete probiotic products like ‘Probacto’ hold significant promise as therapeutic intervention in constipation problems.
