Is it safe to eat almonds if I am trying to eliminate candida? I feel like a lot of my food sources cannot be eaten, and almonds would be really helpful.

Yes. While not all nuts are recommended for those on the Candida diet, the majority of the different diet plans out there agree that almonds are beneficial to your end result – getting rid of Candida. Dr. William Crook, forerunner in the field of Candida treatment and author of The Yeast Connection, recommends nuts in addition to cashews, pecans, and a few others. Several other diet plans recommend avoiding all nuts except almonds.

While you can certainly eat almonds raw, some people recommend soaking and sprouting them. Regardless, this particular nut is a great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids.

Can I Eat Almond Butter on the Candida Diet?

While you could theoretically eat almond butter, most commercial varieties have added sugars and ingredients you should be avoiding. Your best bet is to make your own almond butter, using almonds and a safe oil, like coconut oil, which is also allowed on the Candida diet. All you have to do is place your almonds in a food processor and process them until they’re as fine as possible. Add oil, a little at a time, until you get the desired consistency for your butter.

What about Almond Milk and Almond Flour?

Almond flour, if pure and not mixed with other flours, should be alright if you are making something that doesn’t involve sugar or prohibited ingredients. I like making a dough out of almond flour and water, rolling small balls out into thin layers, and warming them on a griddle to make healthy, Candida-friendly wraps for my veggies.

Almond milk, like almond butter, should be avoided if your favorite brand is sweetened or has unnatural additives. Do a quick web search, though, and you’ll find it’s very easy to make natural almond milk at home, too!
