Yes, there are high chances of connection between Candida and rosacea. Although no direct linkage between the two could be established, there are increasing number of scientific reports in recent times that suggest a probable association between them. The major thing that came into light from such works is the alleviation of the symptoms of rosacea when a treatment regime for Candidiasis was followed. With the causal reason behind rosacea is still unclear this comes up as a major boost in the therapy against the skin problem.

What is the cause behind rosacea?

A common disease of the skin rosacea affects individuals of different age groups but is very prevalent amongst those above 30 years of age. Since, it affects the superficial parts of the body including the face it becomes a reason of social stigma for many which even make them unconfident at work place. The jury is still out to find what could be the real reason behind rosacea. It is not caused by a direct infection of bacteria or any known pathogen. But there is some change within the system that causes the manifestation of the symptoms of rosacea.

According to Dr. Castelain, the critical factor behind the symptoms of rosacea is a triggering agent that results in the expansion of the blood vessels of the face thereby causing redness. You must be wondering as to what could be this triggering factor? There are chances that the Candida could well be this triggering factor.

So, how could you recognize rosacea?

Rosacea shows up through easy to recognize primary and secondary symptoms. The individuals with rosacea show initial phase of the condition with symptoms like sensitive redness of the face, dried up skin that may sting or burn, the skin becomes thicker and coarser with a bumpy texture. At times it even results in soreness and burning of the eyes. In extreme cases, it may cause bumpy nose which ultimately gets a waxy, swollen look.

Connection between rosacea and Candida:

There seems to be good connection between Candida overgrowth and rosacea. According to a work published in the Annals of Academic Medicine by a group of scientists headed by Dr. Ng at National Skin Centre Singapore, Candidiasis and rosacea are highly linked. This was a case study involving a young man who showed good recovery from the symptoms of rosacea when treated for Candida overgrowth. Unfortunately, they could not delineate the scientific basis for this association. However, in recent times a number of studies carried out worldwide involving Candida and rosacea hold good promise to provide some insights into the skin disorder and linkage with the yeast. Massone et al. has demonstrated rosacea like symptoms in patients who were infected with Candida.

Studies by scientists like Alomar Muntanola and Hauck suggest that it is likely that since Candida overgrowth might result in immunomodulatory effects, it could be the reason behind the manifestation of rosacea. In particular, an overgrowth of Candida results in perturbations of pro-inflammatory cytokines that can give rise to inflammation like responses and it could be that is what we observe in rosacea.

Treatment for rosacea and Candida can be the same:

Individuals suffering with rosacea were used to be prescribed antibiotics. However, the intake of antibiotics caused more harm than benefit under such conditions. The undue administration of antibiotics killed the beneficial microflora of the GI tract thereby giving Candida the chance to overgrow. Under such circumstances, the introduction of probiotics in your body can help you fight the menace of the yeast and restore the normal microflora of your body. Persons with rosacea have been found to benefit significantly from vitamins and other anti-oxidant substances. It is well documented that several of the probiotic strains could synthesize vitamins and a number of anti-oxidant molecules. Therefore, the administration of probiotics could help you get rid of the yeast as well as rosacea. You need to have a good knowledge about the strains with such beneficial traits. Are you still in doubt? Just pick up ‘Probacto’ which possess all the requisite probiotic characteristics to serve your purpose.
